Lockheed Martin Statement On John Rood’s Confirmation As Undersecretary Of Defense For Policy

BETHESDA, Md., Jan. 4, 2018 – Following his confirmation by the U.S. Senate to become the next U.S. undersecretary of defense for policy, John Rood will be resigning his position at Lockheed Martin.

Rood joined Lockheed Martin in 2014 as vice president of Corporate Domestic Business Development, and was promoted to senior vice president of Lockheed Martin International in March 2016. In that role, he was responsible for developing and executing strategies to grow the corporation’s international business and strengthen customer relationships.

Rood has nearly three decades of public and private sector experience. Before entering the private sector, he served for 20 years in U.S. government positions at the Department of State, Department of Defense, National Security Council, Central Intelligence Agency, and as a Senate staffer. During his government career, he served as acting undersecretary of state for arms control and international security, assistant secretary of state for international security and nonproliferation, and completed two tours at the National Security Council, where he was a special assistant to President George W. Bush.
